This film tells the story of Kurmash, a inheritor of China's intangible cultural heritage, who bids farewell to his falcon—tamed over five years—using a portrait of himself as a memorial.
From last year's *The Barber* to this year's *Farewell, My Falcon*, the evolving capabilities of the iPhone 14 Pro Max have allowed my documentary short series to explore new themes and push creative boundaries. Once again, we used no external lenses, lighting, or audio equipment—just a few iPhones and tripods.
The iPhone's compact design unlocked countless possibilities: simulating the falcon’s flight perspective, capturing ultra-low ultra-wide shots buried in sand, enduring hours of time-lapse filming in freezing temperatures, and delivering stable handheld tracking shots with confidence. The iPhone was put through extreme conditions—*"soaring to the skies and plunging into the earth"*—yet emerged unscathed, delivering footage that exceeded my expectations.
*(Note: Adjusted phrasing for natural flow in English while preserving the original meaning. Poetic elements like "上天入地" (lit. "ascend to heaven and descend to earth") are rendered idiomatically to convey resilience.)*
